2019 has been such a rush that I almost named this blog post “2020: A Recap In My Favorite Photos.” I don’t know if it’s because I haven’t had my coffee yet or because I’ve been so busy or I’m all up in my feels about the last 12 months or the fact that starting TOMORROW I will have been on this crazy journey for a 9 YEARS… but I just can’t seem to think straight. Luckily, I realized my error before I hit that “publish” button in the top right of my screen.
All that word vomit to say: WOW. TwentyNineScene, what a year you were.
I tried new things, like lifestyle couples sessions, a new editing style, and web design.
I went new places for work, like California, Arizona, and Utah.
I struggled hard thinking I wasn’t good enough and I just needed to give up, mainly because I couldn’t seem to find that work-life balance.
I was ghosted more times than I could count.
I was rejected three times for what I thought was my best work.
But I grew. I learned. I figured out just what I need to do for the new year to feel fulfilled in both business and personal life.
2020 will start with an anniversary session with one of my favorite couples, who I’ve been photographing since early 2015.
It’ll continue with me being 85% of the way booked for the entire 365 days before November 2019 even ended, of which I am insanely grateful. I am going to pace myself; focus on my work and my family without feeling overwhelmed.
It’ll involve travel–my favorite, favorite thing. Coming up will be a wedding in Arkansas and a belated anniversary trip to British Columbia.
The roaring 20’s will be incredible, because I choose to make them that way. Oh yes, 2020. You’re going to be my bitch!
With that being said… meander with me down memory lane for a rewind of 2019, then meet me at the bottom of this post for my goals.
Goals of the year:
–Become dual based in both Texas and Utah. This one shouldn’t be too hard, considering it’s an easy flight and I’ve visited 3 times in less than 6 months for work and family time.
-Travel as much as possible. I’m almost 30. I want to see as much of the world as I can, while documenting the love of humanity.
-Push myself creatively even harder than I already do.
-Maintain that balance of being a badass photographer and nurturing mother.
-Break 6 figures with my photography income. I’m sooooo close to this! I know a lot of people think you need to keep it all hush, hush. But I’m unbelievably PROUD of what I have built. It’s been a challenge, but it’s going to be one of my biggest accomplishments.
-Teach more. The introvert in me shies away from this idea, but mentoring budding photographers who have the same background I do is more rewarding than the paycheck. I absolutely love what I do, so I want to help others get to where I am. It’s truly the best.
Thank you to all of my clients, both new and repeat. You have made the last 12 months overflow with happiness, color, sunshine, and love. I couldn’t do it without you. Thank you and your families for including me (and Marc) in your biggest life moments. It’s been such an honor to document your stories, love, and laughter.
To my future clients/friends, those of you reading this but haven’t booked your photographer: let’s do this! I can’t wait to post your photos in next year’s recap. I can’t wait to tell your story.
And that’s that. 2019: it’s been real. It’s been fun. It’s been real fun. 2020: see you in a few hours.
Love you all, babes.
